Nigel Makes A Wonderful Discovery

Poor Nigel came home yesterday in an absolute state of flux ……….
swan 1……. he had found a pair of nesting swans, which was pretty wonderful,  but, he’s a bit worried that it’s not in the most salubrious spot for baby “swanlings” to enter the world.
swan 3It’s down by the lock, in an area where the all the rubbish from the river collects, especially after bad weather, it is fairly sheltered, but it is directly next to the path we like to walk along when we go in and out of town, and it’s awfully close to some housing.
swan 6I have told him not to fret (although I too am a little worried that they might eat something they shouldn’t amidst all the rubbish), but, I also said that swans generally know what they are doing, and they can certainly fight their corner if they need to, especially where nests and eggs are concerned.
swanI have promised that we will keep our eye on them, but we must be very careful not to disturb them or cause them any distress.

  1. A swan is a fair bit bigger and more aggressive than Nigel. I hope he doesn't decide to go down and "help" them.

  2. Perhaps Nigel could be their "guardian " & make sure the swans stay safe. Is there a local wildlife group you could check their safety with??

  3. Oh how exciting, fingers crossed all will go well for the new little family. It certainly is the most wonderful time of the year. JantheFan x

  4. Keeping watch certainly won't hurt but they can be trusted to have nature's nesting instinct ......going to be wonderful to see the babies grow......the riverside is the place to be with all the springtime happenings!.....will that wobbly fence be collapsing soon?......Dianne

Sorry we are going to have to add word verification our comments section as it seems we are again being bombarded with spam!!! So if your comment doesn't come up straight away it means that our lady "that does" is going through them with a fine toothcomb, so that the spammers don't get through .....This is such a robust pain in the bottom and as such we have boycotted all SPAM comestibles in protest ..... sandwiches, fritters, fricasse etc.!!!!!!
