While Nigel and I were enjoying the pleasures of Dawlish, Darrell spotted this poster ……. The world famous Flying Scotsman was coming to Evesham ……
…… it all sounded wildly exciting, something Nigel would have loved to have seen, especially as Darrell worked out that said train would have had to go over “our” bridge over the river.
It was a pity that we were going to miss it, but as it happened so did Darrell as he confessed that it slipped his mind with mine and Nigel’s impending return as The Towers needed a bit of a once over!
However, once I got back I happened to notice a gentleman getting the litter that had been gathered for the auspicious “clean up” ready for collection, and thought I’d ask him how it had all gone ………
…… it seems we hadn’t really missed anything after all, as sadly The Royal Scotsman had suffered technical difficulties and unfortunately did not make it’s glorious appearance in Evesham or on our beloved bridge ……. it had been replaced by The 46100 Royal Scot, but to the train watching fraternity, as the gentleman, was not quite the same thing!
The Flying Scotsman is, perhaps, the most famous steam train in the UK. I saw it in the National Railway Museum in York. It was not moving, unfortunately.

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! The Royal Scotsman is very famous! so sorry it didn't go as planned....have many saved pictures of those great railway posters from the golden age of rail travel, especially the Great Western Railway.....Love, Dianne
