Poor Nigel ……..
….. he’d gone up with Darrell to check on “his” rhubarb, in the raised garden bed outside the Europa Supermarket ……..
….. only for them to be greeted by yet another very sad and heart-breaking sight.
The tender, young stalks Nigel had thought of rescuing for ourselves, but had instead chosen to encourage them to thrive with a compost of old tea leaves, had since been cruelly and mercilessly uprooted and were now lying limp and lifeless, destroyed by “someone”, without, he sighed, rhyme or reason.
Needless to say, the little fella was devastated…….
…… especially when Darrell said that even if rescued, he didn’t think that it was now in a condition conducive to the making of a decent crumble, good a cook as he was. Poor, poor Nigel.
All that’s left in the bed now, which are vaguely edible, are the nasturtiums, of which Darrell only has a fleeting experience with, after making a pesto with Hugh, his best friend and mentor of all things unusually comestible, but that was ages ago. Darrell told Nigel it might be best to simply walk away, not letting said nasturtiums steal his heart as well, perhaps, just perhaps, against all the odds of wanton nefariousness, they might be able to thrive on their own, if nature (and people) were kind, we shall see ………
Oh, dear, what a pity. Poor Nigel. Some people....
ReplyDeleteOh dear - what can I say. Life is often a disappointment. Try not to dwell on it young nige. Is there any allotments near your abode that you could rent? Although I know there is usually a waiting list of years for said plots these days. Just think of all the things you could grow! But no pink lights bleaching the sky though - absolutely not. JantheFan x
