Fallen Autumnal Leaves Abound ….

With all our goings back and forth to Evesham, it came as quite a shock to return to Castle Greysquirrel to find that our trees are now almost bare …..
…….. and the grounds covered with all their fallen leaves.
Darrell said that kicking up leaves in your back garden, on a golden autumnal day was such a romantic, if not a positively dreamy pastime when they are all crisp and crunchy, with that wonderful, musky, leafy smell about them ……….
……. but sadly, our garden yielded up only very damp, soggy leaves, which left Darrell, for a while, feeling bereft of any said autumnal romance ……
However …… in among all the debris and detritus  of autumn, Darrell did, joyfully, find that the power of beauty had still managed to fight and overcome the odds of nature …….. and blossom ……
…… which made him sigh and wax lyrical all over again, this time about the loneliness of an autumn rose ……… what is he like?!!!!!!!
And then, with his mind turning to our long term (but much wanted) house guest Hugh, Darrell made a note to himself to come down and pick one of the tiny buds he had found, to put on Hugh’s (heaving) breakfast tray, when he took it up to him, at 10.30 on the dot, the next morning!  Again, what, what, what …. is he like?!!!!

  1. I bet Nigel could also muse and give some interesting thoughts about that rose too.

Schubert wrote a lovely song about a wild rose using words by Goethe.
