We Love a Lidl Greek Week!

With our next Greek Odyssey only but a week or so away, it’s spookily poignant that Lidl are having one of their Greek Week’s at the moment ……..

IMG_2105IMG_2106

…… so, it would just look plain rude if we, under Darrell’s expert culinary guidance, didn’t  immerse and reacquaint ourselves of all the comestible pleasures of our beloved Greek Isles, as the tangible and palpable excitement builds to a crescendo chez Towers ………..

IMG_2107IMG_2108

I can’t tell you how much we love “ripping” into a spinach and cheese swirl on the beach, of a Greek lunchtime  and then, later on, in the evening, checking all the menu boards outside the restaurants as we walk into town, looking to see who is serving home made, proper Pastitsio, our very favourite Greek supper of choice.

IMG_2089IMG_2091

Now, after Darrell’s thoughtful perusal of Lidl's flyer and since the shop is on the school run, he asked if Nigel would mind picking up a few treats to help us to get into our “Greek groove” ………..

IMG_2090

…… unfortunately the freezer section was bereft of the aforementioned Pastitsio, but let’s just say Nigel did not leave us wanting, he simply got one of everything they did have …….

IMG_2111IMG_2110

…… to keep us going, until we can actually partake of the “real thing” in Greek time (two hours ahead of the UK) in real life. What are we like, if not very impatiently counting the days, hours, minutes and seconds!

Darrell And Nigel’s Take A Break, Fate And Fortune Book Finally Arrives

It’s taken a while, but Darrell and Nigel’s competition prize of Creating Real Happiness A to Z from Take A Break Fate and Fortune magazine has finally arrived, amidst great excitement.

IMG_2051IMG_2052

It came very well and securely packaged, although Nigel did think that a padded envelope would have easily sufficed, but hey ho, it was just wonderful to actually win a competition prize for something they’d forgotten they’d even entered.

IMG_2053IMG_2057

I didn’t take Darrell very long to be on the cusp of becoming absorbed ……..

IMG_2054IMG_2056

……. however he himself pulled away, deciding, instead, to steel it away and keep safe until we are on our next Greek Odyssey ……..

IMG_2058

……. when, he reasoned, with all that radiant sunshine, glistening turquoise sea with the gentle lapping of waves,  most excellent food, the odd obligatory cocktail and total and absolute relaxation ……..

IMG_2059

……. he and Nigel will be in such a blissful state of mind, they would be completely receptive to all the book has to offer two such inquiring and open minds, ready for a journey of self discovery, loving and acceptance ……. heaven help us all!

I, on the other hand, plan to lose myself in my traditional holiday copy of a charity shop bought Victoria Hislop ……. bliss!

Nigel Tries A New Tack ……..

With the end of the school year fast approaching, Nigel once again wanted to find his beloved readers a little something to encourage them to carry on reading over the holidays and perhaps to remember him by when they move up to Year 3 ………..

IMG_1510

….. and as such, since Christmas, he’s been saving some of his pocket money each week to buy each of them a book, however, imagine his disappointment when he discovered that his usual port of call for his 10 books for £10 is no longer available, instead the only offer is 3 for £5, a little bit too much for his budget.   However, not wishing to become undone, after some thought, he decided to follow a new plan ….

IMG_1509

…….. and the boy sure “dun gud”!  It’s going to take him a bit longer to collect enough books and he knows he needs to be extra pernickety about their condition ……….

IMG_1506

……. but once again the charity shops of Evesham have come to the rescue trumps ……..

IMG_1507

…….. he’s found a source of suitable books in pristine condition for just 25p each, or 5 for £1,  so he’s even managed to save enough money to put some away to do the same for Christmas! So it’s win, win, win!

Bless his little cotton socks ……… happy days!

Celebrity Burgers In Evesham?

It has to be said that we are pretty much strangers to a burger, because, to be honest, we’re more about an occasional kebab, as a precious reminder of so many happy noms during our annual Greek Odysseys,  however that may all be about to change ………

IMG_1729

….. as it looks like Evesham is about to welcome it’s very first celebrity eatery, in the guise of the “opening soon Bono Burger”……..

IMG_1731

……. which has had Darrell all of a twitter ever since he spied the banner, as even Hugh, Darrell’s best friend and aficionado of all things showbiz didn’t have the faintest idea that His Grace, the Lord Bono had decided to venture into  the realms of the “luminary” burger.

IMG_1730

Needless to say, Darrell is now waiting, very impatiently, for all the sheets to be ceremonially removed from the window, for all to be revealed, wondering if it’s opening will be a real life, red carpet event with all Bono’s showbiz friends travelling across the world, to Evesham, to support his new enterprise! I feel an insightful review may also be in the offing once, of course, the press,  fans and onlookers subside.  What is he like?

Holding Out ....... And On.

Poor Darrell, he’s been almost climbing the wall for a very small portion of cod and a cone of chips for weeks now …….

IMG_0702IMG_0701

…….. but there’s no breaking his steely resolve, with our next Greek Odyssey all but a few weeks away now.

IMG_0703

He’s bought himself a new pair of budgie smugglers this year, where he says just a couple of extra mm’s on the waist would mean almost certain “muffin top” and after all his weeks of honing and toning, would be a complete holiday disaster.

IMG_0704

So, for now he’ll just contain himself by inhaling the wonderous whiffs and wafts that are calling to him from the Rainbow Chippy, until our wonderous adventure and then, trust me, there will be no holding back.

IMG_0705

I’ve told him to just get some baggy swimming shorts as favoured by Nigel and my good self, as they are much more forgiving with any sort of bodily expansion, but he’s determined that when he steps onto the sand in Hanioti,  he’s going to be beach body perfect.  What is he like?

The Evesham Hedgehog……. ?

The other day, while Darrell was taking the picturesque route that runs alongside the railway line on his way to the retail park and big Tesco ……..

IMG_1748

……. something, on the other opposite of the line caught his eye ……

IMG_1749

………. that we have since christened “The Evesham Hedgehog”!

IMG_1751

A pretty foolhardy endeavour seeing as how close the “artist” would have been to the rail and how busy the line is up until the early hours ………

IMG_1752IMG_1754

……. and although we can’t condone such activity, said hedgehog, pointing the way to the station is perhaps a little more acceptable than some of the other tag stuff we’ve seen around here!

A Most Romantic Walk ………

Sometimes, when I am out for a stroll, taking in the Evesham air, I stumble across something, even after seven years,  I’ve never noticed before ………

IMG_2232

…… and yesterday afternoon was one such day.  I was particularly savouring the respite from the blazing sun provided by the shade of the two rows of trees, either side of the path, having taken them for granted over the years, never thinking that there was any history to it …….

IMG_2230

…… when I spotted this small obelisk (?) and plaque atop on the grass alongside the path.

IMG_2233

We have an awful lot to thank Mayor Fredric James Master and his prolific family of mayors for, it is a truly wonderful, living  Memorial Avenue of Trees.

IMG_2231

Darrell has set his heart on a memorial plaque on a bench, looking out to Spinalonga from Elounda in Greece and until now I was of the same ilk ……. but now I am wondering if I’d rather like a small archway of olive trees in our beloved Greece instead? Perhaps a bit too much planning and work involving foreign climes for those I leave behind? OK, I’ll stick with the simple plaque …….. while appreciating this avenue just a little bit more from now on.  What am I like?

A Little Sprucing Up

Following on from Nigel’s litter pick of yesterday ……..

IMG_1898IMG_1899

…… it seems there’s been a little sprucing up in town ………

image

The old Argos has been empty and an eyesore for longer than even we’ve been here. There were rumours that Poundstretcher were going to take it over when they closed last year, but I don’t think anyone really believed it. Sadly this is the way of the High Street these days.

IMG_1897

However, the frontage has now been very artistically covered ………

IMG_1900

……. and looks quite lovely ………

IMG_1901

…….. it made me come over a little emotional and teary  ………

https://www.eveshamobserver.co.uk/news/eveshams-heritage-celebrated-with-new-high-street-artwork-on-old-argos-store/

IMG_1902

….. although I would really prefer a couple more real life shops instead, not quite sure what, but a Wilko or Poundland spring to mind, or a perhaps a Grapetree or Tesco Express ……… what am I like?

Nigel Litter Picks For Eco Week

It’s Eco Week in school ……….

IMG_2076IMG_2075

…… as all the litter picker tools and buckets lined up along the school pathway would attest ………

IMG_2093IMG_2095

……. so as well as listening to his beloved little readers this week, it would have looked rude of Nigel, resplendent in his “Eco green” bow-tie, not to show roll up his sleeves and muck in.

IMG_2078IMG_2077

Never have the school grounds been so pristine ……….

IMG_2098

……… with the message carefully taken in by all,  it was ……. emotional!
