I think you can say that since Covid restrictions have lifted we’ve all certainly been getting around a bit …… and this week it’s my turn to enjoy the ever bountiful pleasures of sunny Southport!
Lu asked if I would like to join her and well, it would have looked rude to turn down such kind and wonderful, all expenses paid invitation wouldn’t it?
We started off with a little light mooching where I spotted this very subtle and discreet lightshade that I knew Darrell would go absolutely bananas for ……….
…….. but which would, without question. bring of the whole ceiling down back at The Towers ……. so on this occassion no considered seaside souvenir type purchase was made on his behalf! We also cruised the charity shops of Southport while we were at it, but sadly they yielded very little, save for a spiralizer for Lu for just £1, something she had had a long felt want for, for her signature courgetti spaghetti, so she was pretty chuffed.
Next port of call was for some proper seaside fish and chips. We had really wanted to take them away to eat romantically at the end of Southport pier, but quickly realised that by the time we’d walked the whole 1,000 metre length of the pier (as the road trains, by this time were no longer running) they would have been stone cold and not such a romantic prospect.
So we settled for the ambience of the Embassy Chippy Restaurant instead ……
…….. let’s just say we were not disappointed …….. the batter was, for me, sheer exquisitery, a light and crispy perfection covering for my properly meaty fish, the chips were pretty glorious too!
We then headed back, satisfied and very full to our Premier Inn base (thank you, Sir Lord Lenny of Henry) which we could get to via a series of steps at around the 500 metre mark of the pier ……….
….. which meant we could at least burn off a few calories from our meal. We had a cheeky Asti Spumante in our room and then very quickly feel asleep, heads resting on our Premier Inn, Silent Night luxury pillows ……. to dream of the other pleasures of Southport that were awaiting us!
