Country Bumpkin At Heart

Nigel says his brief stay with Lu, back to The Homeland, has been a very catheterising castrating cathartic experience for him ……….

Wolverhampton Market.

…… Wolverhampton town centre has changed so much in the time we’ve been away that he felt almost lost and a bit of a stranger.

Beloved, old haunts had all but gone……

Beatties Wolverhampton.

…… Beatties, once the poshest shop in town is no more.  Andy used to do the boss, James Beatties’ central heating and plumbing and Granny Shelia shopped nowhere else for all her posh stuff, she even had a gold/platinum card. All three must be having quite a conversation up on their clouds in heaven.

The once proud building no stands empty and abandoned, rumour has it that it’s going to be turned into flats, sad times indeed on Darlington Street.

Nigel says it’s all gone to confirm what he’s been feeling for quite a while now, that he’s become a bit of a country bumpkin and “Shamite”. Cities are now just too busy for him. He may miss the convenience of a  corner shop now and again, but he misses a place where fruit can be picked freely on the school run,  where the honking of the Canada geese often drown out all conversation at The Towers, not to mention the river, boats ……. and charity shops!

He says, not even the thought of now being able to get married in Wolverhampton Art Gallery isn’t enough to tempt him back!

And then, as he now has his very own knitted nativity, (http://mumsmonkey.blogspot.com/2021/02/a-day-of-very-raw-and-robust-emotional.html) a wonderful gift in the midst of a very bleak lockdown in February from our beloved friend Karen, there will be no more pining for just five minutes, nose pressed up on MotorWorld’s window.

I know I felt a little unsettled last time I was in the homeland, but Nigel, bless him, has made me look at things in a new light and I think I can proclaim, loud and proud, that I too am a “Shamite”!

Never mind, Evesham looks a very pleasant place.

"Shamite" - someone from Evesham, I assume.

Or Hersham, Horsham, Chesham, Amersham, Hailsham, Lewisham and Faversham, for that matter.

Aww I’m so humbled to get a mention again! I can assure you I’m just as happy and excited that the Nativity will be treasured and loved in its new home. We have spent a big portion of our life savings on a cruise for this Christmas (we were going to Australia to celebrate our 60th birthdays but the big C put paid to that!)
Anyway I will be thinking of you all very fondly on Christmas Day and raising a glass to you all
Much love from your pal in St Anne’s xx
