Bonkers For Conkers!

There is a “conker” tree just down the road from Snake Mountain (Tom, Laura and Baby Iris’s house) and of which Nigel has been much frequenting since his return from Cornwall.
ConkersNow, in Wolverhampton, fallen conkers are a bit of a rare commodity, as soon as they hit the ground someone seems to snaffle them up……
conkers 1…… but in the Vale of Evesham (The Garden of England), people, especially small boys, are a little more blasé about them ……...
Conkers.1…… so Nigel can more or less “fill his boots” with them, without a mad scramble of an unseemly type nature ensuing.
conkers 2However, Nigel isn’t collecting said conkers to string up and challenge our neighbours to a game with, no, bless him, he knows that Darrell is a martyr to his morbid fear of spiders which, at this time of year are starting to infiltrate our portals begin to creep into the house because its getting chilly……
conkers 3 …… and Nigel has read that if you line conkers up around the perimeter of your house it will keep spiders away, their being allergic to them or something! So, now we find ourselves living  within a mounting conker circle, I am not entirely convinced, but Darrell is sleeping a little easier of late!!!

A ring of conkers might keep spiders inside!
Walking would be very uncomfortable if Nigel actually fills his boots with conkers.

This must be true as my Dad read about it in a certain newspaper and has done this ever since. He's also scared of spiders!

Nigel is right! A few fresh conkers strewn along your windowsills and spiders will magically disappear. We tried this a few years ago in our conservatory (which spiders love!), but a handful of confers really did see them off.

Beautiful tree.....looks like conkers galore that have happy Nigel in conker heaven.....hope they work spider-wise; are you sure they won't just scamper right on over them?.......Dianne

If Nigel fills his boots with chestnuts, it will be rather difficult to walk in them.
