Buoyed by pizza slices and a much better weather conditions Nigel decided to get full value from his tour pass and revisit the rainy trip he took to downtown Manhattan on his first day and if time permitted, proceed to the Uptown bus, followed by a river trip past the Statue of Liberty.
And what a difference a day made ……
……. it’s hard to believe that anyone could miss the Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens or The Flat Iron Building, to name but a few, but when New York is shrouded in mist it’s possible …… and first time round, Nigel did!
But Nigel was chuffed that second time he saw everything, saving his feet for later in his trip and almost knowing the tour commentary off by heart.
Then in the afternoon he got off the bus at Battery Park near the Stratten Island Ferry, with The Statue of Liberty in the distance. It would have been a romantic adventure to get on the ferry (reliving scenes from Working Girl with Melanie Griffith, one of Darrell’s all time favourite films) but as a boat trip with commentary was included in Nigel’s pass it would have been rude not to use it.
It did not disappoint. Seeing the New York skyline from the river gave Nigel the tingles from head to toe for several minutes and more leg pinching moments ……..
……. this really was it!
But as the boat approached the Statue of Liberty, pandemonium seemed to break out amongst his fellow passengers, who all seemed to rush over to the same side, jostling for prime position to get the best photograph of the iconic statue.
Nigel even thought that it might keel over ………
…….. and did think about yelling “ ……dolphins on the starboard bow” to distract everyone from their “money shot” so that he could take his own! What is he like?
It was a wonderful experience, that he wouldn’t have missed ………
…….. and not for the last time I am sure, Nigel had to sigh, Father Christmas you done good …… again!

New York, New York, a helluva town.
The Bronx is up, but the Battery's down.
The people ride in a hole in the groun'.
New York, New York, it's a helluva town!
Looks like Nigel made the right decision-what wonderful views!!!

Sounds like a perfect day in every way!......having been a young man about this Big Apple town, Nigel can now say "been there" when watching movies or tv programs featuring NYC!......London and now NYC, this big city persona fits Nigel like a glove!.....Love, Dianne
