Although we have what could be said to be an historic hostelry across the road from Castle Greysquirrel ……
……. most, if not all, of it’s said historic charms have been removed by a series of renovations over the years, so although they serve a very acceptable sizzling platter, it fails to deliver in the romantic stakes!!!
There wasn’t an inch of corporate about it…… “It is, ‘ow you say, it’s own self, no?” as Hugh would say. This was how it had been for years and years and years, completely untouched …… and it even smelt like a proper old pub, musty, beery and old………… for Darrell it was emotional!
If this was our local, we would surely have had our rufty tufty tankards hung up over the bar, waiting for our next visit. It was the sort of hostelry where we wouldn’t ask for our normal pints of Vimto, we would have a proper pint of manly ale and a bag of plain crisps and pay in old money, as befitting the ambience!

A real pub with real ale?
Good job you didn't ask for your usual Vimto or you might have been escorted off the premises.
