The eagles have landed ……. we are “finally” in Crete and now firmly ensconced in our Cretan holiday apartment!
Our journey was eventful …….. sorry no pictures, Darrell looking green and stressed is never a good look and we were mostly in the dark! Let’s just say that when the pilot invited any child who would like visit the cockpit to “come on down” while we waited for the next available “spot” our hearts sank a little. In the end our plane was about sixty minutes late on leaving, making our estimated midnight arrival even later.
On arrival in Crete our passage through the airport was seamless, all seemed to bode well ….. but it was our transfer that made me fret that I hadn’t got a paper bag for Darrell to breathe into should he need one! It was evident as soon as we left the airport that our coach was juddering alarmingly with every change of gear and that the driver was making and taking a number of phone calls in rapid succession, until after about forty five minutes the driver stopped, turned the engine off, plunging the coach into darkness on a very busy road, without so much as a word, before returning a little while later to continue said juddering journey, again without a word, before stopping again, saying that the coach was kaput and another coach was on its way. Poor Darrell.
Our next driver was, how shall I put it, a touch on the grumpy side, barking at passengers when we, eventually, got to the drop off stage of our journey, and it goes without saying that we were the last to be dropped off at three o’clock in the morning, our hotel deserted except for Iraklis (Hercules) who was just about to finish his shift ……..
