Yet Another Tick ………

I really don’t think we need say anything else ………

IMG_1463

…….. but Weymouth Harbour ……….

IMG_1464

…………. TICK!

IMG_1407

…….. the 50p charity shop mug that has just kept on giving!  Well done Nigel, it’s been a brilliant game!

A Throne Opportunity

Not featured on Nigel’s 50p charity shop Weymouth mug, perhaps a little remiss on the manufacturers behalf  ……..

IMG_1456

…… but, when in Portland, at The Heights Hotel ……..

IMG_1455

…….. well, it would have been rude ……….

IMG_1454

……… not to!  What are we like?

Chesil Beach And The Heights Hotel ……….

I can’t tell you how much we LOVE …….

IMG_1422IMG_1424

……. and have always LOVED Chesil Beach ……… we’ve been many times before with Andy  ……..

IMG_1425

……. in fact we were here just a few days before we lost him, so  it’s a very special place that holds soooooooo many precious memories and a place forever in our hearts.

IMG_1427

And even after all the passing years, we still, spookily, felt as if he’d joined us, to share in all it’s pleasures once again, geeing us on to get to the top of the steep bank before finally getting to see the sea ……. and telling us that he’s often to be found fishing here, now he had all the time in the world.

IMG_1428

Darrell couldn’t help but look for a holey stone, but as the beach is a world heritage site,  it’s strictly verbotten to remove even a single pebble, so he quickly got himself in check, leaving it to Nigel to find an ancient, very green, 20p piece in the car park on our way out ……

20p

…… which we all took as an alternative sign that we were being watched over.

IMG_1459IMG_1460

Then it was up to The Heights Hotel ……..

Welcome to the Heights Hotel on Portland in Dorset

…….. again a place held very dear in our hearts, with it’s truly stunning and breath-taking view of Chesil Beach, noting that it seems the swimming pool and steam room have since been replaced by more rooms.

IMG_1461IMG_1458

Let’s just say it would have simply looked most rude if we hadn’t partaken in very pleasant and ample slice of Dorset Apple Cake with cream and a freshly baked cheese scone or two to go with our pot of tea …….

IMG_1453

……. as we took in the vista, reminisced and then decided, although it’s still only April, this Christmas we might ask Santa for an overnight stay at The Heights for old times sake ……….

IMG_1408

…… and yes, Nigel’s 50p, charity shop, Weymouth mug got yet another, somewhat emotional tick!  Happy, happy days.  This really has been the Christmas gift that just keeps giving!

Welcome To The Pleasure Dome!

As I said earlier this week, Santa “dun gud, very gud” with our holiday caravan ……..

IMG_1415

…… it’s got a proper, real life, seasidey feel, but with a touch of home and the familiar ………

IMG_1416

……….…… as we have the exact same mirror, but larger, chez Towers, which Darrell says is obviously premier, bronze caravan chic!

IMG_1414IMG_1413

We are all loving the curtains ……. all that was missing on them was good old fish and chips.

IMG_1476IMG_1478

We’ve got everything we need and more ……

IMG_1475IMG_1480

Darrell and Nigel have even got their very own tele and en-suite loo in their room, it’s been …….. emotional!

IMG_1470

The interior highlight though, undoubtedly for Darrell, is their, and I quote, “evocative” headboard  ………

IMG_1472

……. there’s nothing, he says, like waking up to a true and lovely Little Mermaid vibe ……..

IMG_1471

……. what is he like?

Yet Another Tick For Nigel’s Mug ……

Though keen to be witness, in real life, to all the regional highlights featured on his precious 50p Weymouth charity shop mug …….

IMG_1406

……. Darrell and I have had to prepare the little fella for the fact that there may be some places that sadly have to remain a mystery for this visit at least, being left as pleasures for another time perhaps………..

IMG_1465

Nonetheless, today we were able to help further his quest by managing to avail ourselves of a most excellent vista from which to view the famous White Horse…… TICK!

IMG_1469

While Darrell and I got the sandwiches and flask out, Nigel immersed himself in all it’s majestic history and recent restoration (for the 2012 London Olympics).

IMG_1466

However, after some considered and quiet observation it seemed to Nigel that said horse was a little more anatomical than he’d expected, what is he like? So it was left to Darrell, while trying to keep his face as straight as possible in order to save young Nigel’s feelings, to point out that what Nigel had thought was the horses, erm ……. oddly positioned “appendage”,  was in fact the King’s foot (sat in a stirrup). Oh my days, where on earth would we be without our little innocent friend?

Romantic Portland Bill

Another tick on Nigel’s 50p, charity shop, Weymouth mug ……..

IMG_1432

……. with a blustery, but very romantic visit to Portland Bill.

IMG_1437IMG_1446

It did not disappoint.

IMG_1442IMG_1449

“The sea was wild and unfettered, it’s crashing waves cruelly and unmercifully pummelling Portland’s famous craggy rocks, while fighting against an opposing wind” according to a very inspired and truly descriptive Nigel ……..

IMG_1434IMG_1435

…….. while also quoting great chunks of the shipping forecast to add to the atmosphere “Thames, Dover, Portland Plymouth, variable 4 or 5; but Northerly or North Easterly 6 or 7, occasional gale in South, backing North Westerly later ………

IMG_1438IMG_1441

……… Intermittent wintery showers. Visibility moderate or good becoming poor later”  What on earth is he like?

IMG_1450IMG_1452

While Nigel was all about the lighthouse and waves, I was very taken by all huts and shacks ……. how romantic is this iconic one, called the Battenburg Hut?  Although they looked ramshackle, unorganised and somewhat abandoned, according to Darrell the asking price for this hut alone, a while back was £100,000 and Prue Leith’s son has got one! Oh my goodness…… well out of our price league then and a fraction of the size of The Towers!

IMG_1441

……. but, we can all still dream…………

Mooching In Weymouth

With an ample scattering of charity shops in Weymouth, it would have been rude not to have a petit mooch ……..

IMG_1394

……. however, on this occassion, it was pretty slim pickings …..

IMG_1396IMG_1395

……… one of the few things to pique Darrell’s interest was a pasta stand, but after some consideration, he decided that as we have enough trouble in our bijoux flat getting our washing dried, adding hanging tagliatelle to the mix was just asking for disaster!

IMG_1387IMG_1388

There was further disappointment when Darrell found that due to unforeseen circumstances, Zara Daughter of Azora and Anita Gypsy Lee (clairvoyant to the long dead or unrecognisable stars), wasn’t in her kiosk should Darrell have wanted to pop in for a quick reading, but as Nigel told him, some things are best left just be a joyous surprise when they happened, instead of constantly looking out for them. Many a wise word from a monkey so young! ………

IMG_1403IMG_1404

However, several seasidey type purchases were made, including sticks of rock, locally made fudge, Dorset Knob biscuits ………

IMG_1444IMG_1445

….. and little trinkety things for our beloved niece and nephew ……

IMG_1402

…… before Nigel started pestering us that he really needed more ticks for his 50p charity shop, Weymouth mug!  What is he like?  Happy days ………
