Nigel Makes A Brief Return To "The Homeland"

With all the excitement of the falling snow and then the subsequent melting of,  I almost forgot to bring you a couple pictures taken when Nigel returned to “The Homeland” for a weekend with Lucy.

Before he and Lucy got snowed in, Nigel did manage to nip into Wolverhampton, but although we have only been gone for eighteen months or so he said it had changed soooooooo much and now felt strange and unfamiliar … even our beloved Poundland had changed, with some things now costing a lot more than just a pound, and to be honest Nigel didn’t really linger and mooch as he once would have, the town centre was just too confusing with it’s new lay out and new and relocated shops, especially when added to the general melee of frantic Christmas shoppers.
IMG_6016For Darrell, Nigel did take time to note that rose gold was the signature colour for the festive decorations in the new “improved” Mander Centre ………
IMG_6015But, though Wolverhampton has gained a Debenhams in our absence and Nigel has very often hankered for the familiar comforts and pleasures for our old “Homeland” (despite, at times, maintaining a very stiff upper lip),  it seems that in spite of the old saying ……absence has not, after all, made Nigel’s heart grow fonder ……

……. but now in his eyes, Evesham, especially our beloved marina, will from now and henceforth be known as “The Homeland” and Wolverhampton as somewhere we once lived, very, very happily …….. but we’ve all moved on in our hearts and minds, except Nigel hadn’t quite realised it until now.

I, like Nigel, have happy memories of Wolverhampton but, I too, prefer my post Wolverhampton life.

Always a disappointing shock when you see changes to a once loved home area...... familiar landscapes all can really seem "gone with the wind"...have experienced a few of these shocks and it can be unsettling; but then you know you are fortunate to have a new home ground that is exactly as it should be!.....Nigel will love Evesham even more!......Love, Dianne

This was a very poignant blog, but I am happy that Nigel is now looking forward and really feeling that he is now home.
We retired a year ago and haven’t been brave enough to downsize and move away, despite checking Rightmove daily! Your words have made me think that a brave new world awaits us...if we dare to look for it xx
