Poor Nigel, with the clocks going back, it’s now getting pretty dark on his return journey from the school run ……
…… and he’s not too keen, although he’s rapidly acclimatising to the new situation!
He’s got his torch (a present off our lovely neighbour Kata), his phone in case of emergencies and for us to talk him along the route if he gets a bit windy (of the nervous variety, rather than the flatulent one) and a few Werthers Originals in his pocket to tide him over until he gets home for his tea …..
…… so any distraction, like the Clock Tower glowing pink as part of an awareness day is always very welcome.
Then, on the last stretch, along the usually deserted road that leads to our estate, it seems that they’ve replaced all the broken lights ……..
…… so it’s not nearly as dark as it was last winter ………
…… and there’s the gentleman who lives in the horse box, who hasn’t, it seems, moved on yet, so Nigel knows if he really does feel uneasy, he only has to knock on the door for said gentleman to escort him on the last hundred yards or so of his journey, past the spooky (but only in the dark) bridge, which, after five years of school running, he’s never had to do yet. He’s one brave soldier!

Well done, Nigel! What you have to do, all in the excellent cause of getting Miss Iris and Master Bertie home safe after school.
Nigel is indeed very brave. I don’t like the dark nights especially as it’s dark when I leave for work and dark again when I finish.
