Bank Holiday Monday Treats

What better way to celebrate Iris and Bertie’s first Bank Holiday out of meltdown than with a day out with their beloved Uncle Nigel, up at The Valey Country Park, leaving Darrell to prepare a Bank Holiday feast with me as his Sous Chef, ready for Nigel’s exhausted yet triumphant return.

In all the five years we’ve been in Evesham Nigel had never once been on the miniature railway at the park, although it has always been a long felt want of his, it’s just something that’s evaded him …….

On the other hand Iris and Bertie are old hats at it, but were no less excited than Nigel, who was almost fit to burst.

Half way around the track there is the opportunity to jump off to play and explore “The Fort” …….

……. and where, according to Nigel “…… the air was rarefied”, with stunning views across the county and time to wonder at all the greenhouses of Evesham down below.  Once more Nigel couldn’t help but sigh, grateful that we have come to settle in such a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by hills in every direction.

It has to be said that all that running around and abundance of fresh air gave everyone a hearty appetite for one of Darrell’s most excellent full and varied picnic lunches, no one was left wanting!

Then with cobwebs well and truly blown away and tummies full, it was time to board the train again with the promise of a little visit to the shops at the end of their journey, as Uncle Nigel had few pennies saved to squander on his niece and nephew.

While Iris chose a small cuddly rabbit, kaleidoscope and wooden box to craft with, young Bertie set his heart on a Worry Monster ……….

………. however, I think the Worry Monster may have set his heart on Nigel!

Nigel returned home tired and everso slightly bruised, but after so many months in meltdown, it was just great to be “normal” again!  Happy May Day Bank Holiday!

Wonderful.

Blue remembered hills? The salad days of Iris and Bertie. Well done Nigel!

A picnic is always a good idea, too. Well done Darrell, and Monkey, his assistant.
