Darrell and Nigel are homeward bound, but not before Nigel had been to the arcade with his precious, much counted, prize tickets ……
…… of which he’d managed to amass 632 of the things, peanuts by others standards, but more than enough for the little fella.
Now, they’d been pretty meticulous in their preparation for exchanging said tickets, not wanting to be stood standing at the counter erming and ahhing like lemons, trying to do the maths for any combination of prizes Nigel could and couldn’t “afford” because Darrell had made a comprehensive list of all the lower bracket items and the tickets they required, the day before, so that Nigel could make his considered choice in the relative peace of the caravan, while Darrell packed up the caravan ready for the morning..
So very, very organised, although this was entirely lost on the young lady at the counter, who had, Darrell said, a very questionable attitude, Customer Service, he mused, was definitely not her forte!
It wasn’t as if the arcade was even busy, as Darrell and Nigel were the first (and only) ones in at the time, at ten o’clock, as the doors opened. which was quite an experience in itself, in a deserted, spooky sort of way ……. with all the machines going!
Nigel, bless him, opted for a sequined mermaid purse for Iris and a weird, silly sand egg timer for Bertie, leaving him just enough tickets left over for some Lovehearts to savour on the way home, making sure he said a heartfelt thank you, accompanied with a huge smile, to the vapid, lacklustre, young lady who served him!
Then, it was off to the beach to say a long lingering farewell and adieu to their beloved sea, this, more than like, being their very last visit of the year ……….. BUT you never know ………..
…… and yes, Darrell did find a holey stone, as he’d almost given up finding one, there it was, as if waiting for him ……. the final piece to their holiday
HAPPY, HAPPY DAYS

Well done, Nigel - thinking of Iris and Bertie, and not himself. How selfless of him.
And a holey stone, too. Great. How many of the aforementioned do you have now?
Oh boyz, you're doing it to me again - making my eyes water!!!
What wonderful gifts to take back - shame the assistant hadn't been quite as happy as Nigel, but there you go, maybe she was having a difficult time in her life. You just never can tell. Maybe she needed someone to buy her a gift to cheer her up. JantheFan x
