Bude Sea Pool

Despite the very blustery conditions, Nigel just had to pay a visit to the world famous Bude Sea Pool ……..

…… even if he wasn’t quite brave enough, in this instance, to take a bracing dip himself.

However, let’s just say, even if he did just walk around the pool, leaving the other brave souls to met the challenge of the cold, it did not disappoint.

He couldn’t believe the size of it, it was mahooooooooosive, no chance of anyone bumping into you, getting in your way or slowing you down in your quest to get from one end to the other before hypothermia set in ………

……. although just one length of it would need, especially on a day such as it was, a must robust inner strength and body tanked up on anti-freeze (but PLEASE do not try this at home), he mused.

It was, in Nigel’s expert opinion a site well worthy of the title Eighth Wonder of the World, it was truly magnificent.

Then he decided to visit the Bude Sea Pool shop in the sited in the car park ………

……. where he learnt all about the pools history and how the locals fought to save it when the council wanted to close it down and now, not only man it, but continually raise funds for its upkeep.

Nigel would have really liked an official Bude Sea Pool swimming cap, but decided that to wear such a cap with pride, he’d have to actually swim in the pool first, even if it was just for only a minute or two, so he promised himself that if he’s invited to stay again next year, that’s exactly what he would do, but in the meantime made a small donation to help assure that his plan could come to fruition, heaven help us!

It is certainly mahoosive. Mind you, so is the bathing cap, relative to Nigel's head. He will have to grow a lot by next year. As they say, "If the cap fits...."

I couldn't cope with that cold water, either. Nigel - you will have to do what the Channel swimmers used to do, and cover yourself with a liberal coating of goose grease, lanolin or vaseline. (Goose grease is a bit of a myth, however.)

Hey, just seeing the pics and mention of the pool - it suddenly dawned on me I visited Bude about 6/7 years ago on a day trip when we stayed at Tintagel.
The pool was brilliant. I can remember the walk along the cliff tops and the cafe we went into and as it was October time there were geese flying right over our head honking away as we made our way back to the bus. Brilliant day. Every time I read Mary Oliver's brilliant poem, Wild Geese, it always reminds me of those geese. JantheFan x
