Nom Nom Nom – Aldi Hot Cross Buns

After our M & S Cheese and Marmite hot cross bun sampling debacle a few weeks ago, we felt it best to opt for a safer, more traditional bun to ring in our Good Friday,  so Darrell nipped up to Aldi (soon to be closed down!) first thing this morning  for some essential seasonal shopping …….

….. to wit six “normal”, buns!  Admittedly, they were served a little more on the toasted side than perhaps we would have liked, as Darrell had entrusted said buns to Nigel, but unfortunately had failed to tell the little fella to check the dial setting for the level of toastieness we might otherwise have preferred …… but hey ho, waste no, want not …….

However, despite all this the score on our world famous Richter Scale of Noms was still a decent 9.5 sultanas out of a robust Bakers Dozen, I think the memory and still lingering  aftertaste of our M & S Marmite disaster may have reflected somewhat in the score!

While out Darrell also dared to rashly purchase a pack of Aldi’s rhubarb and custard hot cross buns, which he has said firmly, he will take charge of, by simply popping them in the oven for a minute or two before serving ……although he is also very tempted by the idea of turning them into an exotic bread and butter pudding, if no one minds. Hmmmm, I think I vote for the later, with extra custard on the side!  What am I like?

Rhubarb and custard bread and butter pudding? Darrell is certainly imaginative and creative, in the kitchen.
