In amongst all the goodies in Darrell’s festive sack LuLu had popped a cheeky copy of the December edition of Take A Break Fate and Fortune magazine, giving him something light and different to peruse, should, she said, our Christmas viewing be found to be wanting.
Let’s just say he never put it down since he found it (yes, the TV really was that bad!) and in turn has kept us all amused by reading out petit soupcon’s from it that either tickled his fancy ……..
……… gave him the willies…….
……… festive comfort …….
…….. or thought to ponder!
An quite unusual gift choice from LuLu perhaps, but a gift it appears that might very well keep giving ……..
……. after Darrell spotted something very interesting, very interesting indeed, at the bottom of one of page 27 …..
…….. which he then eagerly shared with Nigel.
Now, if they can’t come up with a short spooky story between them, well, who else can? Darrell certainly has the fancy words and poetical way of putting things, so when combined with Nigel’s furtive fertile imagination, how could they not fail ……. plus it’ll give me at least five minutes peace and quiet ……
…… although, it seems, I’ve already been tasked with the job of being their most stringent of proof readers! I don’t think I have ever seen them so excited so early on in a new year, about this joint “calab” as they are now calling it.
And, I believe they already have an inkling of an idea, based on true life experience, for which, surprisingly, I can safely vouch. All they need to do now is sit down and actually write it, keeping it down to one hundred words. What on earth are they like?
As ever, I will keep you informed, when I know more ……….

Good luck Nigel and Darrell. A spooky short story, eh? What an interesting idea. Well, one hundred words isn't very many, at all. That will be very difficult, but, as you say, Nigel has a very vivid imagination. I would struggle and I wouldn’t know where to start. You will have to be very clever with words, when you have so few of them to play with.
Trying to include a start, a finish and an ending in such a short, short story will be very demanding. Mind you, if anyone can do it, Nigel and Darrell can do it.
P.S. My previous email was exactly one hundred words. If you write it in a Word document, there is a word count, to save you the bother of keep on counting.
I hope their story is published-that would be great and hopefully the fame won’t affect them?!

Oh I say - this all sounds a great start to 2023, keep us all informed. JantheFan x
