Darrell Snags A Bargain

While Nigel was out on the school run, Darrell nipped into town, as he was desperate for some paprika and tomato puree, however he returned with an additional  “Mile of Jaffa Cakes” that had definitely not been on his shopping list!

He said he’d been mooching in the aisles of Home Bargains when he spotted the festive packs of said comestibles had been reduced to just 50p  because, he guessed, the “best before” was a couple of days out.

Well, it was a no brainer, especially as Jaffa Cakes are Young Master Bertie’s very most favourite treat of choice on the journey home from school and Nigel is forever buying them himself (at full price) to put in his much snaffled, after school “snaffle bag”.

It got, I have to admit, quite emotional when Darrell presented Nigel with his considered purchase …….

…….especially knowing young Bert’s  capacity to get through a mountain of the things during the school term, plus the odd one or two requested instead of a (proper) pudding, these hopefully were going last Nigel and Bertie until Easter at least. Happy days.

Well dun Darrell! A great find!

Biscuits will keep past their sell-by and use-by dates, so no problem.

The big question is; are Jaffa Cakes, cakes or biscuits? There is a difference on the tax, and it went to court against Her Maj's tax people and Mr. McVities won.

I think you should try and make a jaffa cake trifle - that would be delish. Crumble Jaffa Cakes in bottom - top with tinned orange segments and then cover in orange jelly - top with chocolate and custard and little whipped cream and hundreds and thousands or a crumbled flake - I'm Mary Berry and I didn't know it!
