And so, we leave Weymouth, Nigel’s beloved 50p charity shop mug safely packed away, the only places not ticked off being Durdle Door and Corfe Castle, but, when we return, hopefully next year, they would definitely be put on our itinerary.
However there was another place on our long felt want list, Clevedon, we’d often seen the sign to it on the way to and from other adventures, but had never stopped for a cheeky detour, but this time, as we’d got a good tail wind behind us, we finally managed it.
It did not disappoint ……..
…….. the town had a most ample sufficiency of charity shops, a closing down sale in a shop where, always planning ahead, Darrell managed the considered purchase of most of our union flag partyware, in preparation for the Coronation. He was well chuffed and there were plenty of coffee shops for light refreshment.
However, it was the Marine Lake, a mahooooosive, sea water swimming pool that we really wanted to see …..
……. and that surpassed all our expectations, it was indeed massive with a steady stream of brave swimmers willing to meet the challenge of it’s unrelenting cold waters.
Sadly, we did not have the time or wherewithal to take the plunge ourselves, although, to be honest, it was only Nigel who expressed any real disappointment in not being able to do so ……..
……. but hopefully, one day soon, we’ll be back to avail ourselves of its erm ……. wonderous pleasures …….. and perhaps even a promenade along Clevedon’s most historic pier …….
…….. so more happy days and memories in the making!
