Coronation Day, History Being Made, ……. Pity About The Rain

Well ………..

…… it was very emotional ……. and wonderful ……..

……. our first ever Coronation, but if we were to be completely honest, not a patch on the late Queen’s “do” ……… not a tiara in sight, any embroidered gown were covered by a cloak and diamonds were of a very discreet, nature. We understand why, in these times where people are struggling to meet their bills and the price of everything is going up by the day, our new King was right to pare back ……… but yes, we missed the bling of seventy years ago.

We also felt quite sorry for The King, when most people of his age are well settled into their retirement, he looked a tad tired, sombre and lost in his thoughts at times, because at 74 he’s just got on the starting block, we really are expecting a lot from him.

We did venture into town, but found that rain had all but stopped play ……

The big screen was up, but when we got there only a handful of people were watching, so sad!

While we stood standing there Nigel couldn’t help but wonder whether the balcony crowns were actually real thing or super lightweight but posh faux fakes, because both the king and queen seemed to be cope with them pretty well, no hunched shoulders or necks wobbling all over the place under the strain. I guess we will never know.

We returned home for more nibbles from Darrell’s triumphant Royal running buffet, (his Coronation chicken vol au vents just melted in the mouth) to watch all the re-runs in the evening and toast the King with a special Coronation cocktail also concocted by Darrell, comprising of Babycham, Cherry B with generous slug of Bacardi and Vodka, ice, slice and a Montecito cherry with the cheer “God Save The King”! Happy Days.

We witnessed history in the making. I woke up at 5.30 am, to be able to see a fair bit of it.

My favourite part was Handel's Zadok the Priest.

Afterwards, Mrs. D and I went to the cinema to see an opera, all the way from the Royal Opera House, London and then some great tacos.

The weather was rather a shame wasn’t it, and I agree poor King Charles looked like he’d give anything to be sat at home with a nice cup of tea!
Luckily we had our party yesterday and the sun shone all day. We’d decorated the front garden of our apartment block with bunting akimbo (luckily no complaints here!!) and copious amounts of fizz was quaffed. I’d also purchased a life size King for our balcony, and brought him down later on to mingle with his subjects! Today is an altogether more subdued affair whilst my head recovers!
