One of Nigel’s sustainable Christmas gifts to Darrell has been, how I can I put it delicately ……. the subject of much debate and controversy chez Les Towers ……. but not oddly because of the recipes within ……..
It’s a celebrity cookbook sold to raise funds for the RNLI, our charity of choice in Andy’s memory, however being a charity shop find it’s a bit older than Nigel first thought, dating back to 1989, so almost an antique.
So rather than concentrate on the recipes at hand we’ve been drawn to the contributors themselves and well, to be honest ……. as to whether they were still among us, with our playing, perhaps a little indelicately, dead or alive!
Some people who we argued robustly had definitely gone, proved to be very much alive, so Nigel was put on a Google search while we went through the list. A task we can see our Foreign Correspondent and Daily Commenter in romantic Mexico Mr D being very curious about too.
Other contributors proved even more controversial, due to their falls from grace for various nefarious reasons, vegetarian or not, and of whom we would prefer not mention.
It’s a pity Derek Acorah (also RIP) wasn’t asked for a recipe as Darrell would have almost definitely have tried it out, however he is currently considering making Cliff’s (rather insipid, in my opinion) Leek and Potato soup …….
……. he also goes on to tells us (Cliff, not Darrell) that he only eats one main meal a day to keep his weight down and his fitness at peak level for his busy lifestyle and energetic concert performances…….. I am trying to persuade Darrell to perhaps look at Englebert Humperdinck's (UK Eurovision entry for 2012) recipe for steak and onions instead…….. much more full bodied and satisfying!

I would have been fascinated, too, trying to name the contributors from just their photos.
Interesting book....I can remember not so long ago Sir Clip, I mean Sir Cliff, mentioning he only ate one meal a day......oh dear me, I need to follow his example after this Festive indulgence me thinks!
