New - Cadbury Dairy Milk Hot Cross Bun Bar

Ta dah, (robust fanfare of trumpets si vous plait )  …….. our first seasonal comestible review in the run up to Easter ……. as purchased in Evesham’s Iceland store by Darrell!

As great aficionados of the hot cross bun, it would have been rude not to give this new bar the benefit of our expert opinion, especially at this apt time of year wouldn’t it?

With its featured raisins, crispies and cinnamon flavour, all very lovely in their own right, but how would they work, romantically enrobed, in Cadbury milk chocolate? Hmmmmmmmmm

Well, for us, although we do love a “crispie” in the right place, when we think of a hot cross bun, we generally think soft and doughy, so for us, in the case, the crispies didn’t quite work, too much crunch and as such out of kilter, with the idea of said real life bun.

There was an ample sufficiency of raisins,  which worked, but cinnamon is very much an acquired taste and in this bar, to be honest, didn’t quite hit the mark for us, it was a little bit too “dentisty” if you know we mean? However, the actual Cadbury chocolate was, as always, par excellence.

So, all in all it was OK, but failed to pop our cork on our world famous Richter Scale of Noms, with a pretty average of 10 out of 20 aforementioned noms ………

…… which means that we, most probably, won’t be making another considered purchase or adding a bar to any seasonal hamper we might wish to put together.  Never mind ………. onwards and upwards to the next festive delight!

Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate - YES!
Hot Cross buns - I can take or leave them.
Combine the two? - NO. Thank you very much.

Nice try Cadbury.

Glad I read your review-I think it’s one of those flavours that sounds good but doesn’t really work unless it’s the real thing.

Oh SO pleased that didn't get a good nom review = that'll save a few inches on the hips. Tesco are doing a Red Velvet Hot Cross Bun - I did try - a strange combination of tastes all together.
I'll stick with the traditional HCB with lots of butter, since it's Easter, - thanking you very muchly. JantheFan x
