Oh my goodness, the tangible and palpable excitement that thronged through The Towers when Darrell returned triumph from a quick essential shop at the Marks and Spencer Food Hall on the small retail park, up the road holding aloft two packs of M & S Cheese and Marmite Hot Cross Buns, what with us being in lockdown and still pretty restricted in where we can shop, we only dreamed that we would ever actually find them, let alone sample their pleasures!
On opening the packet you couldn’t miss the undeniably Marmitey aroma that exuded from said buns and when cut in half, there was a hint of an extremely delicate dosage of marmite in their colour.
Darrell decided that the much anticipated buns might be best served toasted for our delectation, how Nigel and I managed to contain ourselves while Darrell prepared them I will never know ……..
However, did they pass the muster of our expert opinion as self professed connoisseurs of all things Marmite? Well, we wouldn’t be us if we weren’t totally and robustly frank, but they were….. to be honest absolutely rank yuk……
We were soooooooo disappointed, they promised so much, but we found them to be just too soft, doughy and cloying, despite being toasted, they were simply just not nice, quite the opposite in fact, they were nasty, nasty, nasty, made worse when left we were also left with a very strong, lingering, unpleasant aftertaste ………. yewwwweeeeeeee.
Nigel suggested that perhaps they were a little too “on the fresh side” and since Darrell had purchased two packs, we should open the second pack but leave the buns out in the open (in the kitchen, not the garden) “to stale them up a bit” ……..
……. however it might be a while before I can steal myself to do that, the other pack is now in the freezer, most likely destined for the bird table (??? if it is safe??? to do so). I am afraid we just didn’t like them……. so it’s a heart breaking nil point of a Eurovision Song Contest type nature from us on our world famous Richter Scale of Noms, how very sad.

Oh well, you don't know until you try, perhaps M&S might like to give today's posting a swerve. JantheFan x
