Nigel - Back In The Homeland

Nigel, having entrusted Darrell and I with his beloved and precious school run, is at present fleetingly back in the homeland, to wit Wolverhampton  ……….

Worcester Parkway station

……. but he says he’s “not really feeling it” …….. his journey was far from the familiar, comforting  journey of yore, when we used to commute to Evesham on an almost weekly basis.  The first leg of the journey took him to the new Worcester Parkway station, all was going well until his connecting train arrived (to Birmingham, instead of Smethwick Galton Bridge) ……….

Worcester Parkway Train Station

……. only to find, to his horror, it consisted of only three carriages, one of which was first class and it was absolutely rammed throughout! Never has he worn so many masks at one time before (three in total). It was, he says horrendous and Nigel, to be fair, hardly ever moans plains about anything. He was sooooooo unbelievably relieved to get into “Brum” and off said train he couldn’t say, despite getting lost in the crowds, trying  to find the loo and negotiating his way to the right platform of which there are many at New Street.

Next stop Wolverhampton …….. and a chance to chill out a little, catch his breath and take in familiar vistas as the train came into the city.

Wolverhampton Station

It just shows how long we’ve been away due to lockdown because on arrival in to Wolverhampton Nigel found that exit/entrance to the station had changed quite considerably too, with its new turnstiles, new ticket offices and machines plus overhead a departure/arrival screens ……. the poor little fella even wondered for a moment if he’d got off at the wrong station.

Suffice to say Nigel decided to get a taxi straight to Lu’s, though he much loved a good bus journey, on this occassion he felt it might be a little too much for him to take in.

Poor Nigel. Imagine if it had been Darrell? Or Hugh! I doubt Hugh does trains, however, even in first class.

The journey from hell? At least Nigel got there in the end. Maybe he should find the quietest time of day for the return journey. Or some top-quality PPE.

Does a Banga bus go to Lu's?
