Oh Oh ……

I had a feeling that this event might imminent ….. however, I wish it hadn’t been quite so soon!! Foolishly, without finding out what had occurred in the village in our London absence, I sent Nigel over to the Tesco Express for some milk and a medium sliced toastie loaf …….
…only for him to be struck dead, like a rabbit in a cars headlights by this ….
…… the village Christmas Tree ……. there’s is going to be no doing with him now …..
…… and I suspect that now, when he can’t be found to do his chores, he will be lingering outside MotorWorld waiting to see what they are going to do with his beloved knitted nativity this year!
Ho Ho Ho!!! I fear that I now face five weeks of trying to maintain a peaceful, calm and tranquil atmosphere chez Castle Greysquirrel!!!  Heaven help me!!!

Wolverhampton Beckons ……

London buses are naturally very romantic, but as we made our way to Euston Station from Hugh’s we admitted that we had all started to pine for our very own village Banga bus.
It may be exceedingly bumpy and a little noisy and unreliable, but it meant we’d be back home.
Before we disappeared into the bowels of Euston we all took our last glimpse and breathe of London ………
………. and bid it a fond farewell ………
….. we were homeward bound.
And after slipping into something a little more comfortable and more suitable for travelling, Darrell and Nigel went to avail themselves of the buffet carriage facilities …….
…… where their considered purchase reminded them that though sad to leave Hugh and London behind, exciting days were indeed spreading out before us.
The festive season is, but just around the corner …… and Darrell and Nigel’s sandwich was a tantalising, if still quite early glimpse of the exciting things to come ……….. nom, nom, nom!

Time To Say Goodbye

It has been a wonderful few days with Hugh for all of us ……
…….. but, all good things must come to an end, work beckons us and for Hugh a rapidly approaching Christmas means lots of TV Specials to advise on and the usual round celebrity parties that “one simply must be seen at.”
The parties, he said,  “Can be zee teenzeeest bit teeeeeeediouso, but so many peeps would be let down if I did not appear for juzt zee little while, tell a zee few stories but zen disappear discreetly no? ………
…….. How you say? I give a soupçon of myself, but do not lay on zee feast!”
Thoughts then turned to when we would see Hugh again …..
“Sadly zist may not be for zee little while” said Hugh with a showbizesque, emotional pause, it could be certainly be in the well into the New Year …… “Zee commitments no?!” sighed Hugh
But Nigel was bold, and pressed Hugh to see if he might possibly, possibly, possibly consider Wolverhampton in February, “It might still be winter outside, but in our hearts it will be spring!” he added poetically, and there was so much more left of Wolverhampton that we hadn’t been able to show him in the summer ……….
“I cannot promise zis Nigel, zat would be wrong, but yes, I hold up my hands and say zat I sometimes pine for zee Wolverhampton, and your little village, with it’s Tesco Express!” and heaved a great sigh.
Nigel declared that “Parting is such sweet sorrow!” and then there was nothing left to be said, it was too sad ………. and emotional.

The Rudest Restaurant In London

While Hugh had an “Grand Opening to attend” last night,  he suggested that perhaps Darrell and Nigel might like to go to what is said to be “zee rudest restaurant dans Londres” ……
……“juzt for zee experience, Darlings!”
Now, it has to be said that both Darrell and Nigel were a tad on reluctant side, rudeness never being on the agenda Chez Castle, but decided that if Hugh had recommended it and they took it as an aforementioned “experience darling”!” it would be OK,  so off they went.
On arrival, they waited on the stairs and did not dare to enter the dining area until approached by a member of staff, just as Hugh had instructed them. They were shown a table that was shared by another family, who, fortuitously, were regulars and who were able to guide Darrel and Nigel as to what was what, to hopefully avoid incurring the wrath, scorn or sarcasm of the waiting staff!
When the waiter came over to take their order, both Darrell and Nigel were a little flustered, as the menu was very, very long, and they usually like to take their time to peruse a menu before making their considered choice, but a little afraid that they would be seen as not being quick enough, Darrell blurted out that they would both very much like the vegetarian meal for two, with a huge emphasis on the word PLEASE at the end …… even though neither Darrell or Nigel are in any way vegetarian, and Nigel is a complete stranger to tofu.  Darrell then apologised profusely to Nigel for his undue haste, but admitted he was pretty scared!!  Nigel, in turn, took it all very philosophically, saying that since he ALWAYS orders shredded chilli beef and egg fried rice, as it was his very favourite ….it was a good way of making him try something different.
The food seemed to arrive in seconds, without ceremony,  but was very acceptable. Nigel embraced the seaweed and sweet and sour tofu, but was not so keen on the aubergines which he found a little slimy, though he ate up every bit of his portion, preferring to swallow each mouthful whole rather than chew, for fear of being told off for leaving any …….. even Mr Manners!
In the end both Darrell and Nigel congratulated each other for embracing this unique London experience, the company of their fellow table companions had been most convivial, as they had many Wong Kei stories to share.
“To quote someone famous,” Darrell said “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life Nigel, and this adventure has been erm, different, aubergines excepted! Who knows what other places are out there that we have yet to discover! London is so full of glorious and unusual surprises!”

Our London Garden Centre of Choice

While Hugh had an urgent appointment to have his hair coiffed by Daz (hairstylist to the stars and the M & S Christmas Ad, to name but few) ……..
IMG_0013 (2)…… he suggested that Darrell and Nigel might like to take themselves off for another visit to his London Jardin Centre de choice in Battersea……
…… because after all the hustle and bustle and excitement of our London visit, admittedly all our heads were jangling just a touch …..
……. and at zee Battersea Flower Station, Hugh said they would find zee oasis of peace and zee inspiration, to bring calm to their souls ……

…… and of course, he was right …….
……. it was like stepping into a green and wonderful magical world …..
….. of never knowing what’s round the corner
…… where Darrell and Nigel said that spookily, as Hugh had predicted,  they felt themselves go all light, fluffy and relaxed.
…… and they were also inspired …… Nigel now wants to put a mysterious Narnia type door at the bottom of the garden ……
…….. and provide lots of safe homes for all the bees, insects and creepy crawlies when we get back to Castle Greysquirrel.
So, while Hugh may have enjoyed zee champagne, zee canapés and zee showbiz gossip with Daz, whilst having a blow dry, for once Darrell and Hugh were not in the least bit jealous, as they thought they undoubtedly had the better deal.

Promenading The South Bank

Hugh declared that he was cancelling all of his meetings of great import for yesterday afternoon ……
….. and that Cheryl F-V would just have to manage all by herself and choose zee dress for next Saturday night without him, because what he wanted to do was go on zee fabuuuuuuulous promenade along zee South Bank with Darrell and Nigel instead!
And indeed, it was both fabuuuuuuulous ………….
……. and romantic in a Love Actually, London in autumn type nature  …….
Darrell was very, very, very taken indeed by the exhilarating skateboarding they stopped to watch and the graffiti in the said skateboarding area ……
……  however, I just pray it didn’t inspire him to any potential designs that he might want to add to his bedroom walls  ……
….. or the urgent need for spray paint!

It was a wonderful afternoon……
…… with Hugh as a very knowledgeable and genial host ….. who didn’t even bat an eye when Nigel asked if the Golden Hind had been a pirate ship!
It was a time for friends ……
……. to just be happy in each others company ….. without, at times, needing to say a word ….
…… but just sit and watch the world go by ……
…… and embrace …….
……. exactly where they were in the world ………
…… at that moment .......... and smile at the thought that Cheryl F-V was probably still looking for a frock without Hugh's help!
