No Swanlings …….. But Perhaps A Squab Or Two?

No swanlings again for Nigel this year ……..

…… but he has spotted a somewhat exposed nesting pigeon, right at the very end of our road, nearest town.

Hopefully the trees new leaves will quickly burst forth to offer a modicum more protection and privacy to mother and her squab(s) as this is really is the worst sort of road to be nesting on ……..

……. which will now naturally worry poor Nigel, especially as I doubt he’ll ever be able to really know if everything has hatched and fledged safely, although he mused, the view from the window of the second floor flat, next to the tree, must be fantastic.

It all looks rather precarious ………

Baby pigeon.

……. so fingers and toes tightly crossed.  Pigeon babies may not be the most beautiful, but as ever Nigel doesn’t care, even when their mum or dad decides to poop on your head, it’s said, in Russia, to be as a sign of good luck. Nigel’s the champion of the underdog, any why not, he turned out pretty OK!

I hope Nigel doesn't decide to camp out, to protect the nest. He will need a tent, thermals, long johns and a head torch, just for starters.

W have missed our Swans this year too. The pond where they usually nest is so high, land to nest on is practically non-existent. They moved their nesting site last year to pond around the corner for a better place to build a nest but they are not there this year either. Global warming has a lot to answer for. JantheFan x
