Yesterday we had a very emotional start to Darrell’s festive Halloween preparations, the postman had delivered a parcel, a parcel from Hugh, Darrell’s best friend and mentor of all things depeche mode and de rigueur and it’s contents had Darrell locking himself in the bathroom for at least 20 minutes while he tried to compose himself ………
……. because said parcel contained something that Darrell has yearned for, for soooooooo long, but we’ve never really been able to justify the expense of buying it………. OMG, Halloween (Day of The Dead) bedding, something we are sure Mr D, over in Mexico, is only to familiar with in his own home!
It is all too wonderful for words and I am sure you’ll understand just how emotional Darrell was, but let’s just say never has changing the bed been such a joyous and heart felt occassion!
Once the bed was made there was no stopping Darrell …….. our Halloween tree was up in a shot ……..
…….. shelves were rearranged and festively decorated ……..
…….. and other bits and pieces added hither and thither with all of Darrell’s considered artistic aplomb ……
……. without, I hasten to add, going too over the top.
Yes, it’s beginning to look and feel like Halloween, it even smells like Halloween after Darrell found some seasonally fragranced candles in Home Bargains whilst out mooching. There’s still a few things left to do, but we’re saving them for a little nearer to our traditional Iris and Bertie Halloween Sleepover just to keep the excitement mounting …… what are we like but very, very happy. Happy days!

What an excellent, and thoughtful, present.
The Day of the Dead is indeed a huge celebration, here in Mexico. People will make an altar in their homes and will make offerings to the dead. They make altars and decorate the altars and graves using marigolds. We eat bread of the dead and people hold graveside vigils. Vast numbers go to cemeteries in certain regions of the country.
All very splendid and frightening in a good way.....if one can be frightened in a good way. Yes Day of the Dead very important day as Mr D says.
