A Most Successful Free Gift

Nigel's idea to bring Darrell a copy of the free Belgravia magazine was genius, we didn't hear a single peep out of him for hours on end, until he had absorbed every single picture and word, poring longest, I think, over the adverts.
It was a world away, he said from our very own Wychavon magazine. the pages were thick and felt sooooooo luxurious under the finger, where said Wychavon magazine was flimsy and prone to static!
The adverts, he enthused, seemed to have come from another planet, no plumbing or carpet cleaning services filling up the pages in Belgravia, just bakeries that were almost too beautiful to be true, offering a slice of (pink) heaven.  Peggy Porschen has far surpassed Darrell's long felt want to visit the cafe as featured on The Apprentice, Peggy's was now on Darrell's must do list.  He says he won't be able to rest until he has  tasted one of  their Romantic Rose cupcakes (£6.95) with it's "light vanilla sponge infused with Marc de Champagne syrup, filled with a fruity strawberry jam and topped with a pink champagne cream cheese frosting, sugar rose and sprinkles" ........ what is he like?
And then there was the thought of a Pret a Portea, afternoon tea at The Berkley Hotel, I think not, not at £70 per head, especially when we could have a really posh tea up at Jelly Pickles Jam every day for a week for the same price!
As for all the places Darrell now dreams of going for a little pampering, to experience rituals and be drenched in posh, pongy stuff, don't get him started and yes, shops with names like Mungo and Maud, De Vroomen and Linley do sound a little more exclusive than Home Bargains and Greggs, but I have told him, they all have a place.
The property pages were also much thumbed and oooooh and ahhhhed over, but at least Darrell knows they really are in the realms of fantasy, but on the other hand very useful for making notes on their interior design.
It was a very thoughtful gift for Nigel to bring back, he knows Darrell so well ....... and to quote Captain Sensible "Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk.  Talk about things you'd like to do.  You gotta have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?"

That is one posh magazine. £6.95 for a cupcake. I bet that would buy a load at Tesco.
I couldn't bring myself to pay £70 for an afternoon tea! I would join you at Jelly Pickles Jam, however.
