Exploring Agios Nikolaos

As there  were a few storm clouds over Elounda we decided to leave “our” beach for a short getting a taxi to explore the pleasures of Agios Nikilaos round the bay……..

……..let’s say it did not disappoint …….

…… especially the mystical and hauntingly magical Lake Voulismeni which local legend claims to be bottomless. We weren’t sure about the bottomless bit, but it was sooooooooo clear, it was unbelievable.  It was also teeming with fish, like a giant flat topped aquarium ……..

…… if there had been a glass bottomed boat trip we would have certainly been at the front of the queue.

We also found a very beautiful, tiny church on the edge of the lake ………. and you know how much we LOVE a Greek church …….

…… but sadly on this occasion the church was locked so we weren’t able to go inside and light a candle, always a special part of our Greek odysseys.

Agios Nikilaos was, Darrell said, “…. not unlike like a Greek Venice”  What is he like? But in a way, he was quite right.

We did a lot of walking, a little mooching of the very lovely retail establishments and in between, needed to partake in frequent liquid refreshment, it may have been a little overcast, but it was still very hot.

Light a candle for a certain loved one, who is no longer with us?

It all looks so beautiful - hope you find a little open church somewhere. JantheFan x
