Living La Vida Lockdown – Day 47 – Living With A Protected Species?

Something very odd has occurred in our communal back garden ……
gardening time
It has to be said that during our five or so weeks in meltdown we couldn't really help but notice just how long the grass was getting, but due to these “unprecedented” times what we live in, we weren’t sure, if or when it would get done………

Freshly mown grass.......... and then as Darrell and Nigel looked a little closer from the window they noticed that “the gardeners” had clumps of something unstrimmed, and well, it would have been rude not to venture out to investigate further ……..

…… to find that the only things not to have been cut down to an inch of their lives were several scattered clumps of yellow flowers ……….
study of cowslips
I have to say that at that The Boyz started to get very excited with their vivid imaginations running wild,  perhaps said yellow flowers were left because they were a rare endangered species and couldn’t be mown down for fear of infringing goodness knows how many protection orders and our back garden was about to become a “secret location”
British Book of Nature

Darrell and Nigel were quickly back inside the flat, pouring over the Complete Guide To British Wildlife trying to identify said clumps, discovering that they were in fact Primula Veris or to people what don’t speak Latin, cowslips, protected in Northern Ireland but not in England, so sadly, no preservation orders chez nous.

But before Mr D, the font of all knowledge, gets in there first, they also learned that the name Cowslip actually means 'cow-slop' or cowpat in reference to its preferred meadow habitat, however, I can assure you, none of that has been going on in our back garden, thank you very much!!

Well the font of all knowledge learned something new from today's blog. Maybe I am just the font of almost all knowledge.

My comment hasn't appeared here, either. What is going on?

I blame mum. :)

I was just looking at some cowslips the other day when I was out on my 2 metres social distancing walk. Pretty colour. Quite rare in the wild these days. JantheFan x
