Living La Vida Lockdown – Day 55 - What’s Another Year?

Our apologies for our very late posting today, we have no one else to blame except ourselves ……. and Darrell’s potent Eurovision inspired cocktails!
Eurovision Shine A Light
The night started with us in full ebullient Eurovision mood, but as it continued I don’t think any of us were quite prepared for how emotional we would feel as we realised that, Eurovision 2020 really did find us in “one different world”, as so many wonderful memories of Eurovision past, spent with Hugh (Darrell’s best friend and mentor of all things chic and a la mode) at his Worcester bolt hole, Le Chicken Coop, came tumbling back.
One different World Shine a light
But, I digress …………..
Casting our Eurovision Vote
…… the first part of the evening, Come Together, gave us the opportunity to choose our most favourite song of all time, so it goes without saying that Darrell had registered us well beforehand, no way was our voting going to be found wanting, even if it was just a bit of fun.
voting
We all pretty much agreed on our votes, although there was some debate between Fairytale – Alexandre Rytak and Diva - Dana International, so  we opted for Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai instead,  but in the end the nation voted Waterloo and Abba as their champions.
Shine A Light Rotterdam
Then we moved to Rotterdam ……
BBCEurovision Shine A Light
….. where it was seeing all the forlorn contestants in their bedrooms, after watching snippets of their video performances, so full of hope, asking us to stay safe and promising to be back next year that began to tug at our heart strings …… and when Darrell decided it was time our first cocktail.
Johny Logan What's another year
……. but by the time Johnny Logan came on to sing “What’s Another Year”, that was it, we sang along with all our hearts, but the crackles in our voices were unashamedly there, and that’s when I had to get the buffalo wings, pizza and garlic bread out of the oven for Darrell!
Europe Shine a Light
We soldiered on, however, there was enough pizza leftover for our post Eurovision breakfast this morning ……….. but one teary eyed cocktail led to another …… and then another ………
Eurovision Fan Choir
……. before the finale, when all this years contestants joined together to sing Shine A Light …….. “we’re all gonna shine a light together, all shine a light to light the way”. It was emotional as we swayed together on the sofa, gently waving our lighters in the air (adhering to health and safety regulations of course) ………. and then we were done for. Fortunately Darrell had previously set the following A to Z of Eurovision to record, so we can watch it at a later date when we are feeling more composed and our sore eyes and hazy heads have recovered.
XXX STAY ALERT XXX

Ah well, better than nothing. Hopefully, next year, everything will be bing band a boom, back to normal.

Leftover pizza? Impossible, in my house. No matter how much you buy, it will all be eaten.
