It has to be said that during meltdown the river has been unusually quiet, normally, at this time of year, we’d be positively awash with barges, our arms aching from waving to them all and our voices horse from shouting “ahoy there” to them from our window ……….
…….. but yesterday, Darrell and I were greeted by a quite different sight ……
……………… swimmers! Three of them!
All I can say is thank goodness Nigel was out the front at the time having bumped into our lovely neighbour Kata, while taking the rubbish to the bin.
Believe me, neither of us have uttered a single word of what we witnessed ……….
…….. because the last thing we need is for Nigel, despite his ever insuppressibly buoyant spirit to whip out his swimming shorts, and goggles, rubber duck in tow (to act as his marker), insisting that “All for one and one for all”, it would be rude not to give wild swimming a go too, I really don’t think either Darrell’s or my heart could take it, so shhhhhhhh, Mums the word, protect Nigel from himself!
