Darrell's Finds Something That's Hugh's Got That He's Always Wanted .......

It seems we've all been doing a lot of charity shop mooching this festive season and happily we've also all come up trumps ........
...... yesterday was Darrell's turn.  He'd been rummaging around in the 10p box outside The Tracey Sollis  shop in the Library Arcade when he found something that Hugh (his best friend and mentor) had that he'd always been extremely envious of .........
...... to wit a letter rack!  It was a very emotional find for Darrell.  Hugh's letter rack sits on his ornate marble mantle piece, above the fire place in his Notting Hill apartment. It is where he carefully puts all the VIP invitations (usually sent in gold, black or occasionally bright pink envelopes) he receives for the many glittering red carpet events of a showbiz and occasionally royal type nature he is asked to. Darrell admits to having peeped at one or two of them, but as ever is the abject of discretion and will has never or will never divulge anything he has read!
Naturally, Darrell's letter rack will not be half as posh as Hugh's, but after some research he has established that what he found is a real genuine "1960/70s vintage, retro kitsch, faux brass, floral metal letter rack" and that others, exactly the same, are going for around £8, so for just 10p he has had quite a bargain.
I did feel that I should gently have to point out to Darrell that we don't actually have a mantle piece for Darrell to rest his letter rack to admire and wait for the invitations to pour in ........
...... but totally undaunted Darrell said that he thought that for the moment, at least, it would look quite resplendent under the boiler in our kitchen area until he had time to read up on where Dame Lord Lady Kelly Hoppen recommended putting something similar in a beige room which also had no much mentioned mantle piece!  You have to love him!

A great find. I hope you don't fill it with junk mail. (Or male junk.)

Rather than allow the occasional invitation to sit in the letter rack, how about making it into a place to store anything that is ready to put in the post box. e.g. birthday cards and the like. You could be well organised and put a months post in there, all in order, stamped and ready to post on the appropriate day .......hmmmm....maybe I need one of those, I do like to be organised with my post. JantheFan x p.s I need a visit to a charity shop....
