An Untimely, And For Nigel, An Unfortunate Force Of Nature

Nigel has noticed a bit of a natural phenomena following all the unseasonal wind we have experienced in the last week or so ………
IMG_2779…… under all the horse chestnut trees, on our way up to Tom the Scientist and The Lovely Laura’s, are hundreds and hundreds, perhaps even thousands of tiny weeny baby conkers, having been blown in a most untimely fashion from their moorings in the trees.

This, he reckons, is likely to have quite a considerable impact on his conker scrumping later in the autumn, as he likes to collect them and put them in a big basket in his bedroom to ward off spiders, as conkers are said to repel them by giving off noxious fumes. Nigel hasn’t been at all keen on spiders since he read that people can swallow as many as eight  spiders a year while they are asleep …….. so conkers seemed to be the obvious answer to him.

Nigel - conkers or bonkers?

I think Nigel is going to have to be an early bird collecting full size conkers this Autumn. We also have them around the house to scare off spiders.

Dear Nigel has the spider situation well in hand with his plan!.....hope conkers will be plentiful come autumn......the spider attack during sleep is downright scary.....keep close watch on those conkers!.....Love, Dianne
