Our Icelandic Saga is gradually drawing nigh, we have returned to our first hotel in Reykjavik and I can sense a certain sadness in Nigel, although he is trying hard not to let it show.
Certain sadness's aside however, yesterday it was “my time”, the day I had been looking forward to most on the whole trip …..
……. a visit to Reynishverfi and Dyrolaey …… the beaches that we had only been able to see tantalising glimpses of mahoooosive waves from our hotel in Vik ……. until now …..
OMG …….. it was sooooooooooo worth the wait and much much more ……
I can’t tell you how romantic it all was, and then when it began to snow, mahoooosive white snowflakes falling on black volcanic pebbles and sand …… it was like a visual poem .....
It was all so wild ……….. and rugged ......
……. and as such we had to be very careful and ever vigilant, making sure we were at least 20 metres away from the waters edge because of mahooosive freak waves that could occur at any time and without warning.
This was my moment for pure awe and wonder.
This had to be one of the most wonderful and majestically powerful places I have ever been……. perhaps even eclipsing the Grand Canyon, and that’s saying something!!!!
Then just before we had to return to Johann's vunderbus Nigel thought of Darrell …….. and in a panic started to look for a holey stone to take home for him ….. I told him that I doubted very much if he would find one in the time we had left ........ ….. but almost as soon as I said it Nigel looked down and found one, lying at his feet, it was if it was meant to be ….. we both knew at that moment someone was watching over us ….. let’s just say it was yet an emotional moment ………

Amazing - what a journey you have taken us on. A stunning country, original, rugged, windswept and romantic. A place that will stay in your hearts forever. Wonderful - my appreciation to you for allowing us to share these astonishing moments with you. JantheFan x
"…… it was like a visual poem ....." What a wonderful line.
Did Andy help with the holey stone?
An amazing trip.
The dramatic beauty that has surrounded you on this trip will be with you always.....cannot be doubted, that holey stone find was meant to be......Mr D has said it perfectly regarding your visual poem line; a very wonderfully moving description that all of us reading it will remember.......the almost unbelievable magnificent beach experience ever!......Love, Dianne
