A Very Quick Shopping Opportunity

Shopping opportunities have been minimal during our visit to Iceland ……..
However, yesterday Stuart stopped Johann and his Vunderbus to allow us to purchase a few comestibles to inject a little excitement into our lunchboxes which have started to get a little predictable, not that Nigel is complaining, because he still can’t get over being allowed meat AND cheese at the same time in his sandwiches!!
I don’t think the supermarket we stopped out was an Icelandic equivalent to Waitrose or Sainsbury’s, perhaps a Lidl (our supermarket of choice when our village Tesco Express doesn’t have what we want) or an Aldi ….. but it was still very interesting. However, as Stuart had us on a very tight rein time time wise,  getting round it was like being on supermarket sweep!
In the end, since Nigel and I were quite content with our lunchboxes,  I decided it might be sensible to avail myself fully of the confectionary aisle, thinking of small gifts to take home and perhaps an Icelandic confectionary review or two.  And since Iceland is famous for its liquorice products, it was a no brainer,  I filled my basket with all things said liquorice, or at least what I thought looked like liquorice, plus a packet of chocolate biscuits for the girls in the office!
Nigel who is usually an enthusiastic shopper, especially for items of a confectionary type nature was unusually disinterested ……..  he was already thinking of our next adventure, which Stuart had promised would be a visit to a glacier tongue!!!!!! If Nigel bursts on this trip I will firmly lay the blame at Stuart!!!!!

My mouth is watering for liquorice and my brain can't get Supermarket Sweep out of my head.
I wonder if Nigel is thinking about licking the glacier tongue.

Another amazing Icelandic wonder with Nigel not interested in the goodies in the supermarket!.....that crisp cold air, blue lagoons, glaciers and geysers have him positively besotted!......in that cold air all those calories would be burned up as fast as you could nibble on them.....I wouldn't miss that opportunity for sure!......Dianne

Maybe you are on to something, Dianne. I saw one obese person in my first two weeks in two cities in Kazakhstan. It was freezing cold for about six months a year.

Hi, Mr. D, I have read more than once the body needs more calories to sustain itself in cold weather; makes sense, too, that it will burn more calories to maintain it's body temperature.......Woe is me, I'm just plain "sunk", sabotaged, in subtropical Florida!!.....Dianne
