Accustoming Ourselves To Strange American Ways ……..

With our “Holiday of a Lifetime Holiday” to Last Vegas on the horizon I decided that I ought to try to acquaint Darrell and Nigel to the finer American ways, especially as far as their cuisine is concerned, so that our quintessential Englishness  won’t make us stick out like three Limey Pommes while we are over there.double stuff oreos……. And so to ease them in gently,  I thought I would try them with a packet of Double Stuff Oreos, because I knew that if/when we go for High Tea at Caesar's Palace the first thing Darrell and Nigel would remark upon when served with a plate of these dainties would be how black they are……
oreo_twistI also knew that the American way of eating biscuits or “Cookies” as they call them over there,  goes totally against the British ways of refinement and sensibility …..
038…… in the USA it is considered de rigeuer to split your “cookie”, then lick it, before dunking it in your milk …… all the things that we don’t usually do in the UK ..... in company at least!
027……  Such a practice would be likely to throw Nigel into a complete state of  flux as I am always telling him off for opening his custard cream to scrap the filling off with his teeth before dunking the remaining biscuit part in his tea ……………..
oreo twistHowever will all due diligence my tutorage began …… first taking the Oreo and twisting it, thus splitting it in two and exposing the filling …..
oreo lick…… then licking it, a part Nigel, as mentioned earlier, relished mahooosively, but I am afraid made me shudder a little …….
oreo dunk….. before finally dunking it …. in tea …. not milk ….. that was just one cultural difference too far at this stage …..

However, I felt that this first dip into American etiquette and cuisine went very successfully …. and bodes very well for our next step into all things American  ……weenies!!

When I was a lad, I used to split the biscuits in two and scrape off the filling with my front teeth.

Eugh eating an Oreo, let alone disecting it and dunking it, makes me shudder! I guessed Nigel would love it but as such a gentleman of refinement, you did very well to embrace that particular American custom Monkey. Well done!

Oreos are a true American classic for sure...don't care for the dark chocolate ones myself, but prefer the vanilla Oreos with chocolate icing inside......don't like dunking but usually do take them apart to have two little ones.....Dianne

Can I recommend the brand new Dairy Milk with Oreo for a taste test? Myself and my work colleagues have just discovered it and we all feel that it rates very, very highly on the Richter scale of noms.
