Festive and seasonally appropriate May Day greetings from Maypole Street in Wombourne ……. our arch rivals in this years Staffordshire Best Kept Village Competition.
…… a far more romantic proposition on a glorious day such as this …… when robust skipping and the entwining of ribbons is all de rigueur in village society!
However …….. we couldn’t help but note that the Wombourne village “conveniences” are directly situated behind the maypole ….
…… and so we wouldn’t actually advise availing yourself of the said facilities during any maypole dancing …. as it would be most unfortunate if you were to momentarily forgot where you were as you stepped out or became temporarily dazzled by the rays of the May Day sun and inadvertently walked straight through the aforementioned ribbon entwining mid performance …. and thus find yourself embarrassingly bound and fettered within its traditional intricacies …. resulting in a not very happy May Day"!

Oh boys you do cheer me up so. Merry May Day Dancing hitherto and all that. JantheFan x
Maypoles and Morris Dancing (not at the same time mind) - how traditional.
The rivalry must be pretty intense. What about Brewood?
Always good to keep a close eye on your rivals.....inspiration may strike to help offset their magnificent Maypole.... it is a beauty but would have been even better if there was a more meadow like site sans the facilities; so classically picturesque for all that maypole entwining fun....Happy May Day....Dianne
Spot on with this write-up, I really believe that this website
needs much more attention. I'll probably be returning to read more, thanks for the info!
